Window seat: the slow train south
Why we swapped a short flight for a long, lovely train ride.

The flight would have taken an hour. The train took six, and it was the best part of the trip.
Why slow is better
No queues, no tiny liquids, and a whole table for card games. Outside the window, fields turned into hills, and hills turned into lakes.
The journey was the holiday before the holiday.
Booking tips
Book early for the cheapest seats, and pick a table of four facing forward. Bring a picnic, a book each and a bag for rubbish.
